Center for Powerful Public Schools Announces Leadership Transition and Search for New CEO

April 2024

Los Angeles, CA - Dr. Alicia Montgomery, Center for Powerful Public Schools CEO, will be taking on a new role as the Executive Director of Gateway Public Schools in San Francisco beginning April 15, 2024. During this transition, we welcome Carolyn Gramstorff as our new interim Co-CEO alongside Dr. Montgomery who will transition to Co-CEO and a more limited day-to-day operational role ensuring the successful completion of all ongoing contracts.

Ms. Gramstorff has over thirty years of experience as an educator, nonprofit leader, and consultant in California, including serving as Executive Director of North Oakland Community Charter School and Chief of Schools Strategy and Equitable Systems at Educate78. For the last three years, Ms. Gramstorff has expanded the Center’s work across the state to unapologetically focus on Black and Brown students, families, and educators, and developed equity-centered systems for the Center’s products and services.

Center for Powerful Public Schools Board of Directors is launching a search for a dynamic, equity-focused, transformational, and visionary chief executive officer to lead the Center into its next generation of impact in public schools. The incoming leader will have the opportunity to articulate a vision for educational systems change that demonstrates the powerful outcomes when school systems support services and community advocacy interact strategically.

The Center Board led by Jeanne Fauci, Board Chair and founding Executive Director, is working diligently to ensure the organization’s mission, values, and beliefs remain at the forefront during this transition period. The Board is committed to safeguarding the Center's dedication to serving its clients.

Dr. Montgomery’s expertise and dedication have been instrumental in advancing our mission to build powerful public schools,” said Ms. Fauci, “Just as she has made a significant impact on our community, we are confident that our next leader will continue to drive positive change and create opportunities for student success just as Dr. Montgomery will continue to do at Gateway Public Schools.”

We thank our ongoing partnerships for sharing the Center’s unwavering commitment to equity, access, and choice. We look forward to our continued work together to empower students, educators, families, and schools.
